Google Analytics (GA4) Debug Checklist for Sparkforge Funnels

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Run four checks before opening a support ticket: confirm the GA4 tag loads in Network, validate events in Tag Assistant, verify hits in GA4 Realtime, and look for Console errors.

Use this checklist to verify your Google Analytics (GA4) tag and events are firing correctly from your Sparkforge funnel pages before contacting support.

1. Check if the Google tag is installed

  1. Open your funnel page in Google Chrome.
  2. Right-click the page and choose Inspect.
  3. Open the Network tab.
  4. Refresh the page.
  5. Filter for gtag/js or collect.

Look for requests to google-analytics.com/collect or google.com/ccm/collect. If they appear, the tag is installed and sending data. If they don't, the tag isn't loading or is being blocked.

2. Use Google Tag Assistant

  1. Open Google Tag Assistant.
  2. Enter your funnel domain.
  3. Start a debug session.
  4. Reload the funnel page.

Watch for a page_view event and any custom events you've set up (form submission, button click). If events fire, the tag is configured. If nothing fires, the configuration is wrong.

3. Confirm data in GA4 Realtime

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Select the correct GA4 property.
  3. Go to Reports > Realtime.
  4. Visit the funnel page or trigger the event.

If you see your visit or event, GA4 is receiving data. If not, common causes include incorrect Measurement ID, tag installed on a different domain, property mismatch, or filters blocking traffic.

4. Check for browser errors

Open Inspect > Console and look for:

  • gtag is not defined
  • Script blocked errors
  • Content Security Policy (CSP) errors

Any of these will prevent tracking from working.

When to contact support

  • Tag appears installed but events aren't firing.
  • Events fire in Tag Assistant but don't reach GA4.
  • Script or blocking errors you can't resolve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I see gtag/js requests in the Network tab?
The tag may not be installed on the page, may be added to a different domain, or an ad blocker or browser extension is blocking it. Try in a clean browser profile.
My events show in Tag Assistant but not in GA4 Realtime — why?
Usually the Measurement ID points to a different property, or filters in GA4 are excluding your traffic. Verify the ID matches the property you're viewing.
What does a CSP error mean for my GA4 tag?
Content Security Policy is blocking the tag's script from loading. Update your CSP to allow Google Analytics domains or remove the conflicting policy.
Do I need a separate tag for each funnel page?
No. The GA4 tag installs at the site level. If it's on your funnel domain, it fires on every page in that domain.
Can I test events without publishing the funnel?
Yes. Use a preview URL or unpublished page — Tag Assistant and Network inspection both work as long as the tag is loaded on that page.
