How to Add Custom Meta Tags to Sparkforge Sites

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom meta tags in Sparkforge let you control how each page appears to search engines and social platforms. Add them per page from the SEO Meta Data tab under Links and Tags > Custom Meta Tags.

Custom meta tags are HTML snippets in the <head> of a page that tell search engines, browsers, and social platforms how to handle it. Sparkforge lets you add them per page without touching code.

Google maintains the canonical reference for which meta tags are honored: Google's special tags documentation.

What custom meta tags control

  • How a page title and description appear in search results.
  • The image, title, and description shown when a page is shared on social media (Open Graph, Twitter Cards).
  • Whether search engines should index a page (robots: noindex).
  • Browser-level behavior like cache control and refresh rules.

How to add a custom meta tag

  1. Go to Sites > Funnels or Sites > Websites.
  2. Open the funnel or website you want to edit.
  3. Click into the specific page or step.
  4. Open the SEO Meta Data tab.
  5. Scroll to the Links and Tags dropdown.
  6. Click + Add next to Custom Meta Tags.
  7. Enter the tag name and content.
  8. Click Add, then Update SEO Meta to save.

Example: block a page from search results

To stop Google from indexing a draft or thank-you page, add a tag with name robots and content noindex.

Common tag patterns

  • description — the snippet shown under the page title in search results.
  • og:title, og:description, og:image — what appears when the page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Slack.
  • twitter:card, twitter:image — Twitter share preview.
  • robots — index, noindex, nofollow controls.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long until Google picks up updated meta tags?
Anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on how often Googlebot crawls the page. You can speed it up by submitting the URL in Google Search Console.
Can I add more than one custom meta tag per page?
Yes. Add as many as you need — description, Open Graph, Twitter, robots, and any other tags Google supports.
Will missing meta tags hurt my SEO?
Missing description and Open Graph tags weaken search snippets and social previews, which lowers click-through rates. Search engines will still index the page, but it will perform worse.
What does adding noindex do?
Search engines that respect the directive — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo — will skip the page entirely. Use it for thank-you pages, drafts, and internal-only content.
Where do I edit titles versus custom meta tags?
Standard fields like page title, description, and social image are at the top of the SEO Meta Data tab. Custom Meta Tags is for anything else — robots rules, alternate language tags, verification codes, and so on.
