Clone a WordPress Site in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Site cloning duplicates a WordPress site in Sparkforge — content, theme, plugins, and settings included. Each clone runs independently of the source, so changes to one don't affect the other.

Site cloning copies an existing WordPress site — content, configuration, theme, and plugins — into a new independent site under your Sparkforge account. It's the fastest way to spin up a new site from a known-good template instead of starting from blank.

Who can clone

Agency Owners, Agency Users, and Account Users in the same sub-account can clone sites. If the cloning option doesn't show up, your role is the most likely cause — check role permissions before troubleshooting further.

Step 1: Open the WordPress dashboard

  1. Sign in to Sparkforge and open the WordPress section.
  2. Click Create New or select Blank WordPress.

Step 2: Start the clone

  1. Find Clone using Existing Site or the Incomplete Setup Card.
  2. Click the Incomplete Setup Card.
  3. Choose Choose From Existing Site.

Step 3: Pick the source and name the clone

  1. Select the Sub-Account from the dropdown.
  2. Choose the Source Site you want to copy.
  3. Enter the New Website Name.
  4. Click Clone.

A real-time progress indicator shows cloning status. If permissions don't match the cloning requirements, Sparkforge falls back to the standard new-site flow.

Step 4: Review the clone

The new site is fully independent. Edits on either site don't affect the other. Manage the clone exactly like any other WordPress site in your dashboard.

Troubleshooting

Cloning option missing

Almost always a permissions issue. Confirm you're signed in as Agency Owner, Agency User, or Account User in the relevant sub-account.

Cloning stuck

Refresh the dashboard and check the progress indicator. If it doesn't move, contact Sparkforge support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does cloning copy plugins and themes?
Yes. The clone includes all installed plugins, the active theme, content, media, and configuration.
Are clones tied to the source site?
No. Each clone is fully independent. Edits to one don't propagate to the other.
Why don't I see the cloning option?
It's almost always role permissions. You need Agency Owner, Agency User, or Account User access in the same sub-account as the source site.
Can I clone a site into a different sub-account?
You select the source sub-account during the clone setup. The new site lands in the WordPress dashboard you started from.
How long does a clone take?
Most clones finish in a few minutes. Sites with large media libraries take longer. The progress indicator updates in real time.
