How to Create and Submit an XML Sitemap in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

An XML sitemap tells Google which pages on your Sparkforge site to crawl. Generate one in Settings → Domains → Manage → XML Sitemap, then submit the URL via Google Search Console's Sitemaps report.

An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages on your site so search engines like Google can crawl them efficiently. Sparkforge generates sitemaps per domain, with full control over which websites, funnels, and individual pages get included.

Do you need a sitemap?

Per Google: a sitemap is most useful when your site is large, has poorly linked pages, is brand new, or contains a lot of media. Smaller, well-linked sites usually do fine without one.

You probably need a sitemap if

 • The site has more than 500 pages.
 • Pages aren't well cross-linked from the homepage.
 • The site is new and has few external backlinks.
 • You publish heavy video, image, or news content you want indexed.

You probably don't need one if

 • The site is small (under ~500 pages) and well-linked internally.
 • You don't need image, video, or news search visibility.

Where to find sitemap settings in Sparkforge

 1. Open the Sites section in your sub-account, then click the gear icon top right.
 2. You'll land in Domains (also reachable from Settings → Domains).
 3. Find the domain you want to manage, click the three-dot Manage action, then select XML Sitemap.

You'll see all websites and funnels connected to that domain. Each shows a checkbox (select the entire site) and an arrow to expand individual pages.

Create or edit an XML sitemap

 1. Click the arrow next to a website or funnel and select the pages to include.
 2. Click Proceed.
 3. If no sitemap exists yet, click Add New.
 4. Review the custom URL path (defaults to sitemap.xml) and edit if needed.
 5. Click Generate & Save. Sparkforge confirms the sitemap and shows the full URL.

The list view shows every sitemap on this domain, its custom path, last-modified date, and a three-dot menu to edit or delete.

Excluding a page from the sitemap doesn't block it from search. To prevent crawling, you also need a robots directive or noindex tag on that page.

Submit your sitemap to Google

Google only re-checks a sitemap when notified of changes. Don't ping unchanged sitemaps repeatedly.

Recommended: Google Search Console

 1. Open Google Search Console and add the domain as a property.
 2. Verify ownership.
 3. Open the Sitemaps section.
 4. Paste the sitemap URL Sparkforge generated and submit.

After Googlebot crawls, the Pages report inside Search Console will show indexed pages, crawl errors, and active status.

Alternative submission methods

 • Add the sitemap URL to your robots.txt file (e.g., Sitemap: https://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml).
 • Use Google's ping endpoint: https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=<sitemap_url>.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find XML sitemap settings in Sparkforge?
Go to Settings → Domains, click Manage on your domain, then choose XML Sitemap from the action menu.
Does excluding a page from my sitemap stop Google from crawling it?
No. To block crawling you must also add a robots.txt rule or a noindex meta tag. The sitemap only signals which pages you want crawled.
What is the default sitemap URL path?
Sparkforge uses sitemap.xml by default, but you can change the custom path. Resubmit to Google after any change.
Do I need a sitemap for a small Sparkforge site?
Probably not. If your site is under 500 pages and pages link to each other from the homepage, Google will discover them without a sitemap.
How do I tell Google my sitemap was updated?
Resubmit it in Google Search Console's Sitemaps report, or send a GET request to https://www.google.com/ping?sitemap=<sitemap_url>.
