Update Custom Values Workflow Action in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Update Custom Values action lets a workflow set or replace a custom value at runtime. Use it for loyalty tiers, discount rates, sync timestamps, and any field that needs to change based on real-time triggers.

The Update Custom Values action modifies a custom value while a workflow runs. Use it to keep CRM data current — loyalty tiers, discount rates, sync timestamps, and other fields that depend on what just happened.

What it does

  • Sets or replaces a custom value based on a trigger or condition.
  • Accepts static values or dynamic variables.
  • The new value is available immediately for any later step in the same workflow.

Common use cases

  • Loyalty tiers: bump a contact from Bronze to Gold after a purchase milestone.
  • Data sync: store the latest API sync timestamp in a custom value.
  • Discount logic: adjust a discount rate when a tag is applied.
  • Status fields: flip a status field based on user behavior.

Example: VIP discount rate

Trigger: Contact Tag Added with condition VIP.

Action: Update Custom Value

  • Custom Value: Discount Rate
  • Current Value: 10%
  • New Value: 15%

How to set it up

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows. Open or create a workflow.
  2. Click + and search update custom value.
  3. Pick the custom value to change and enter the new value (static or dynamic).
  4. Save and test. The updated value is available to all later actions in the run.

Custom ValueWhich custom value to updateLoyalty Level
Current ValueExisting value, if anyBronze
New ValueStatic value or dynamic variableGold

Advanced patterns

  • If/Else: only update when the current value matches a condition (e.g., promote only if current tier is Bronze).
  • Math Operation: calculate a new numeric value, then write it via Update Custom Value.
  • API integration: store data from inbound webhooks in a custom value for later reuse.
  • Dynamic codes: rotate discount codes after a purchase threshold.

Suggested triggers

  • Contact Tag Added — react to lifecycle tags like VIP or High Priority.
  • Contact Updated — keep dependent fields aligned when a profile changes.
  • Form Submitted — capture survey scores or preferences.
  • Appointment Booked — flag high-value bookings.
  • Opportunity Status Changed — promote tier when a deal moves to Won.
  • Survey Submitted — store NPS or quiz results in a field.
