How to Bulk Import Companies via CSV in Sparkforge CRM

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Go to Contacts > Companies > Import, upload a CSV under 30 MB, choose Create / Update / Create + Update, map fields, review, and start. Track progress and download error logs from Bulk Actions.

Bulk Import for Companies adds or updates Company records in Sparkforge from a CSV file using a guided wizard. The wizard handles deduplication, field mapping with preview data, and a verification screen before the import begins.

Important: CSV (.csv) only. Excel (.xlsx) files and Google Sheets links are not supported.

Why bulk import

  • Faster setup — add hundreds or thousands of companies in minutes.
  • Controlled updates — choose to create new records, update existing, or both.
  • Safer changes — skip empty values so blank cells don't wipe live fields.
  • Cleaner matching — Record ID-based dedupe targets the right rows.
  • Verification screen — confirm mappings before anything runs.
  • Auditability — track every import in Bulk Actions and download a report.

Prerequisites

Permissions

You need Admin access to perform imports.

File requirements

  • Format: .csv
  • Max size: 30 MB
  • One sheet/tab
  • First row contains headers
  • Headers should match existing standard or custom field names

Field preparation

  • Required fields contain valid values.
  • Custom fields exist in your account already.
  • Update mode includes the correct identifier (e.g., Record ID).

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Missing required fields.
  • Blank primary field values.
  • Incorrect Record IDs in Update mode.
  • Unique field conflicts.
  • CSV headers that do not match CRM field names.

Test with a small file first.

Import modes

Create

  • Creates new records only.
  • Requires the Primary field.
  • Existing records are not touched.
  • Duplicate handling follows unique field rules where applicable.

Update

  • Updates existing records only.
  • Requires Record ID, or unique fields for custom objects.
  • Rows without a matching Record ID or unique field are skipped.

Create & Update

  • Creates new records and updates existing ones.
  • Match on Record ID or unique field updates the row.
  • No match creates a new row.
  • Unique field rules apply if configured.

Run the import

Step 1 — Navigate to Import

  1. Go to Contacts > Companies.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Choose the Companies object and click Next.

Step 2 — Upload CSV

  1. Upload the CSV file.
  2. Choose your import mode.
  3. If prompted, select the unique field to deduplicate on.
  4. Click Next.

Step 3 — Map columns

  1. Match each CSV column to the correct CRM field.
  2. Required fields must be mapped.
  3. Unmapped columns can be ignored.
  4. Mapped fields show a green indicator; errors are highlighted.
  5. Decide whether Don't Update Empty Values is on. Enabled keeps existing values when the CSV cell is blank. Disabled clears them (Primary and required fields are still protected).
  6. Click Next.

Step 4 — Review and start

Confirm mappings and settings, then click Start Bulk Import.

Duplicate handling

  • If multiple unique fields are mapped, pick Record ID or one unique field as the dedupe field.
  • The system also checks the other unique fields for conflicts.
  • Rows that conflict on a non-selected unique field fail with errors so the rest of the import can continue cleanly.

Update empty values restrictions

These fields cannot be cleared by an empty CSV value:

  • Primary field
  • Required fields

Track imports

Every import lives under Bulk Actions. From there you can:

  • View status: Processing, Completed, Failed.
  • Pause, Resume, or Cancel a running import.
  • Open detailed statistics.
  • Download error logs.
