Custom Objects and Company Objects in Sparkforge Forms

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom Objects let Sparkforge forms, surveys, and quizzes collect structured data unique to your business (Properties, Pets, Vehicles), while the Company Object connects multiple contacts under one organization.

Custom Objects and the Company Object let Sparkforge forms, surveys, and quizzes capture structured data that doesn't fit standard contact fields, then link it back to contacts so your CRM stays organized around what matters.

Custom Objects vs. Company Object

Use Custom Objects to track anything unique to your process or industry: Properties, Pets, Vehicles, Cases, Assets.

Use the Company Object to track who a contact works for. It's built-in and focused on business-level data like client organizations, agencies, or vendors.

What you can do

  • Add custom object fields (text, number, date, dropdown) to forms, surveys, and quizzes.
  • Link data to contacts as one-to-one, one-to-many, or many-to-many.
  • Sync data updates across linked records automatically.
  • Limit each builder to one object type to prevent setup issues.
  • Protect primary fields so associations don't break.

Company Object specifics

  • Includes default fields: Name, Phone, Email.
  • Company Name is the primary key automatically.
  • Works with Contacts only; each contact has one company association.
  • Accessible from the contact record.

Custom Object flexibility

  • You define fields and the primary field.
  • Supports multiple associations per contact.
  • Models specialized data outside Companies, Contacts, or Opportunities.

How to use them

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Objects to create or manage custom objects. For Companies, use Settings > Companies.
  2. Open the Form, Survey, or Quiz Builder.
  3. Add fields within the builder (custom object fields are added in the builder only).
  4. Choose the association settings to define how the object connects to the contact.
  5. The system adds the primary field automatically.
  6. Add more fields of the same object type.
  7. Save and publish. Submissions now link the contact and the object.

Best practices

  • Use only one object type per form, survey, or quiz.
  • Configure association as soon as you add a custom object field.
  • Define a primary field for custom objects; the system uses the first field if missing.
  • Keep object names simple and consistent.
  • Avoid mixing Company and Custom Object fields in the same builder.

What it works for

  • Custom Objects: Industry-specific tracking (properties, pets, vehicles, cases, assets).
  • Company Object: B2B relationships linking multiple contacts under one business.

Current limitations

  • Mixing multiple object types in a single form is not supported.
  • Bulk updates and advanced reporting on custom objects are not yet supported.
  • Forms, surveys, or quizzes with Company or Custom Object fields can't be created or shared via the Template Library.
  • Custom fields and custom objects can't be shared across sub-accounts.
  • Custom values can't be added to custom object fields.

Quick fixes

  • Association not loading: Check internet connection or object setup.
  • Mixed object error: Remove old object fields before adding new ones.
  • Primary field missing: Define one in settings; the system uses the first field if none exists.
  • Removed primary field: All fields clear from the builder; re-add manually.
  • Company not showing under contact: Confirm the company exists in Settings > Companies.

Examples

Real estate

Create a Custom Object for Properties to store location, size, and price. Each record can link to multiple contacts (tenants, buyers, owners).

Veterinary clinic

Use a Custom Object for Pets. Each pet record links to the owner's contact and includes breed, medical notes, and vaccination data.

Agency or B2B

Use the Company Object to store business-level info: company name, phone, billing address. Associate multiple client contacts with one company.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Custom Objects and the Company Object?
Custom Objects model anything unique to your business (Pets, Properties). The Company Object is a built-in object for organizations, with Company Name as the primary key. Each contact can associate with one company.
Can I mix Custom Objects and Company Objects in the same form?
No. Each form, survey, or quiz supports one object type. Mixing them produces an error and prevents association from loading correctly.
Why can't I share my form via the Template Library?
Forms, surveys, and quizzes that include Company or Custom Object fields can't be shared through the Template Library yet. This is a current limitation.
What happens if I remove the primary field from a custom object?
All custom object fields clear from the builder. You'll need to re-add them manually after defining a new primary field.
Can I use this for real estate or veterinary tracking?
Yes. Real estate offices use Custom Objects for Properties; veterinary clinics use them for Pets. Both link records back to contacts to keep CRM data structured.
